Dave Douglas is an American trumpeter and composer.

Douglas grew up in New Jersey and studied piano as a child, trombone and trumpet. He studied music in Barcelona and Boston, then at the Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory. In 1984 he moved to New York where he studied at New York University. In 1987 he made his first European tour with Horace Silver.

Since 1993, Douglas has recorded more than 20 solo albums. He has worked with numerous musicians, including Jack McDuff particular . In his compositions he processed material by musicians such as Duke Ellington , Thelonious Monk, Roland Kirk and Kurt Weill , along with elements of Eastern European folklore.

On newer recordings in part is a clear reference to the fusion music of the early 70s, make up about Miles Davis from . Dave Douglas also refers electronic instruments into his music. Because of his broad musical spectrum that it extends more and more, he is one of the innovative jazz trumpeters of the presence in the U.S..

Twice he was awarded the National Endowment Jazz awarded fellowships. Charms of the Night Sky was awarded the 1999 prize of the German Record Critics.
